Defender Safety, a New York-based company with roots in the safety equipment business, has quickly pivoted to meet the needs of healthcare providers during the COVID-19 pandemic. With a mask sale to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston as its first foray into the market, Defender Safety has since produced PPE such as procedure masks and surgical masks (pending NIOSH approval) that have earned nearly $20 million in revenue for 2020. Founder Teddy Haggerty notes that Defender saw just $250,000 in sales one year ago.
