The most important features are proper fit, attachment points, and comfort.

• Proper Fit: A harness should have adjustable shoulder and leg straps to create a secure, snug fit. This ensures the harness stays in the correct position during a fall and distributes force safely across the body.
• Attachment Points (D-Rings): D-rings are the connection points where you attach lanyards or lifelines. The dorsal (back) D-ring is used for fall arrest, while side D-rings are used for work positioning, allowing hands-free tasks. The number and location of D-rings determine what type of work the harness is suited for.
• Comfort: Features like padding, lightweight materials, and ease of adjustment play a major role especially for workers wearing a harness for extended periods. A padded harness is more likely to be worn properly and consistently.

A harness should be inspected before every use for signs of wear, fraying, cracks, or damage. Check all straps, buckles, and D-rings to ensure they are in good condition.

If a harness has been involved in a fall, it must be immediately removed from service and replaced, even if no visible damage is present. Harnesses are not reusable after a fall, because the forces generated can compromise their integrity.

Even without a fall, most manufacturers recommend replacing a harness every 5 years or sooner if it has been exposed to harsh conditions, chemicals, or heavy wear. Regular inspection and timely replacement ensure maximum safety and compliance with OSHA/ANSI standards.

All are compliant, but the Hammerhead is designed for workers who wear harnesses more frequently or for longer periods, whereas the Mako series is designed for short term work.
